Jungle in Progress

For our last day of Iowa fishing before heading west, we went back to the special regulation browns stream.  A week on from when I fished it last, the plants are pretty much in charge.  It was still just about fishable for me, but James had fits as the vegetation was up to his chest or neck.

Plants definitely winning.

The weather was unsettled, overcast and rumbling with thunder, but the rain held off for a while.  James caught a little brown on a black woolly bugger and I caught a few on a beadhead killer bug, but James was struggling both to move around and to get into casting position.  We made it until lunchtime, then the threat of an electrical storm started to get a bit real, so we bailed.  A major storm hit us a couple of minutes after we got the car started, and the rain continued all the way home.

I caught a few, all on the beadhead killer bug.

I caught six or seven, but we were never able to settle into a groove.  Snags, James getting tangled in brush, difficulty getting into casting position, difficulty landing fish.  It’s a great stream, but it’s probably done until some frost next fall.
